I really enjoy teaching kids and adults-- I like to make it fun and and I'm not a hard case about practicing. BUT practice is truly what makes the difference and really leads to more fun more quickly. So I like to encourage practice and provide practical ideas on effective practice techniques. We start with learning the basic chords and touch on bar chords and also working out simple melodies. I encourage students to bring in material they hope to learn and we work from there- I also have a good backlog of tried and true tunes and songs that help teach certain approaches. I can handle individualized teaching and I can reinforce the lessons with you tube videos so that students have a reference between lessons. I also will use tablature sometimes too. What I don't do is get into too many details about theory. I don't read music myself and I don't teach kids/adults to read music but there are aspects of theory that just come in no matter what. If a student wants to sing as well I can help with that and as we go along I am a songwriter and I love to encourage kids to write if they have ideas. I enjoy putting all the elements together with them so they can have confidence when they perform. I don't push too hard if I sense I shouldn't or if a student isn't interested in the performance aspect.
